AMD Shifts GPU Production to Radeon RX 9070 XT

AMD is shifting its production strategy to prioritize the Radeon RX 9070 XT over its non-XT sibling. According to PROHARDVER, the company is reallocating internal capacity toward the higher-end model, which carries a $599 MSRP. Both GPUs share the same Navi 48 die and 16 GB of GDDR6 memory, meaning production costs are nearly identical.

The decision hinges on profit margins. With memory pricing as the main bottleneck, AMD aims to concentrate on a SKU that offers better returns and justifies the engineering investment. The non-XT version uses a lower-binned die, but the XT model commands a roughly 9% price premium, making it a more attractive focus during a component cost crunch.

Production of the standard Radeon RX 9070 isn't stopping, but it will receive less capacity. This move helps AMD avoid price corrections on its flagship card, which is already less vulnerable to memory price hikes. The company is also working with add-in board partners to stabilize overall memory pricing and availability for the series.
