Women's Football Stadiums Model Success

KC Current's CPKC Stadium has set a new benchmark for women's football, becoming a beloved community hub with every home game sold out since opening in March 2024. Co-owned by Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany, along with Chris and Angie Long, the stadium took just 18 months to build despite facing significant financing challenges.

The ownership group visited 40 banks before finding one willing to invest in women's football as a viable enterprise. Having their own stadium provides KC Current with a competitive advantage—opponents find it intimidating, and the team enjoys a home record of 31 wins in 38 matches. The stadium offers revenue opportunities like naming rights and premium seating that women's teams haven't fully utilized.

Other NWSL teams are now following KC Current's lead, with Denver Summit planning their own stadium for 2028 and Boston renovating existing facilities. Chris Long believes this represents a fundamental shift in how women's sports infrastructure is viewed, creating a new wave of investment that could transform the league's financial viability within five years.
