Von Miller, a 37-year-old pass rusher with 138.5 sacks, signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys, per ESPN. The move marks his return to Texas, where he attended De Soto High School and played college football at Texas A&M. Miller, entering his 15th NFL season, had nine sacks with the Washington Commanders in 2023, his highest total since 2021. The Cowboys aim to utilize him in a pass-rush rotation alongside Rashan Gary, Donovan Ezeiruaku, and rookie Malachi Lawrence.

Miller’s career includes eight Pro Bowl selections, seven first- or second-team All-Pro nods, and a Super Bowl MVP title in 2015 with the Denver Broncos. He previously played for the Broncos, Rams, and Bills, with a torn ACL affecting his 2022 and 2023 seasons. General Manager Jerry Jones has been active in bolstering the defense, recently extending Quinnen Williams and now adding Miller. New coordinator Christian Parker, who worked with Miller in Denver, sees him as a mentor for young players like Malachi Lawrence.

The deal aligns with the Cowboys’ strategy to strengthen their defense. While Miller may not be an every-down player, his experience and sack production make him a valuable addition. His relationship with former Cowboy De Marcus Ware, whom he played with in Denver, could further aid the team’s pass rush. Miller’s social media announcement included a Cowboys uniform photo, signaling excitement for his homecoming.
