While reasons for Johnson-Thompson and Asher-Smith's withdrawals are unconfirmed, it's speculated they are prioritizing the upcoming European Championships. This decision reflects the challenging schedule for elite athletes, with Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson also opting out of the Glasgow Games. International stars like swimmers Kaylee McKeown and Summer McIntosh, and 800m runner Mary Moraa, have also withdrawn.

Adding to the list, England netball captain Natalie Metcalf withdrew due to a calf injury. She has been replaced by Ella Clark in the squad that previously won Commonwealth gold in 2018.
