England's Natalie Metcalf has been ruled out of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow due to a calf injury sustained on Monday. The 33-year-old, who returned last December after giving birth 14 months ago, said she is "devastated" and it "will take some time to process fully." Metcalf was the only member of the 2026 squad who helped England win gold on the Gold Coast in 2018.

Metcalf, who captained England to a bronze medal match loss against New Zealand in Birmingham 2022, has been replaced by Ella Clark. Head coach Anna Stembridge said the team is "gutted" for Metcalf, praising her inspiring return to court after becoming a mother. Stembridge added they are "deeply disappointed she won't be able to compete in Glasgow."

The Roses, ranked third globally, open their Pool A campaign against Northern Ireland on 25 July, alongside world number one Australia, South Africa, Malawi, and Tonga. Metcalf helped Manchester Thunder win the Netball Super League last season.
