Bayern Munich's Goalkeeper Crisis Deepens Ahead of Atalanta Clash

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has indicated the club's 16-year-old goalkeeper Leonard Prescott will likely start against Atalanta in Wednesday's Champions League second leg. Prescott, normally a U-19 player, was on the bench during Bayern's Bundesliga match when third-choice Sven Ulreich suffered an adductor muscle tear. Jonas Urbig, Bayern's backup, sustained a concussion after colliding with an opponent during the first leg win over Atalanta. Kompany stated Urbig trained Tuesday and Neuer did a partial session, but Prescott's readiness is the primary option if Urbig isn't fit. The German champions also face injuries to Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala.

Kompany's comments come after Bayern's 1-1 league draw with Bayer Leverkusen, where Nicolas Jackson and Luis Díaz were sent off. Despite a dominant 6-1 first-leg advantage, Kompany insists Bayern must avoid complacency against Atalanta. He emphasized the importance of the match for the club's 75,000 fans, stating, 'We've worked very hard to build this momentum... We can't afford to go into a game too casually.'

Prescott's potential debut represents a significant development in Bayern's ongoing goalkeeping crisis, which also involves Manuel Neuer's recovery from a calf injury.
