The PWHL's Las Vegas expansion team officially named Kim Weiss as head coach Monday, bringing in a rising coaching talent with experience across multiple levels of professional hockey. The 37-year-old makes the transition to women's hockey after spending two seasons as an assistant with the AHL's Colorado Eagles.

Weiss joins the professional women's ranks after the Eagles fell in Game 7 of the AHL Western Conference finals to Chicago. She becomes just the league's fourth female head coach, doubling last season's total and marking continued progress for women in coaching positions. Vancouver remains the only PWHL team without a head coach for next season.

Her appointment reunites Weiss with Las Vegas general manager Dominique DiDia, former teammates at Trinity College who now build the organization together. Weiss previously broke barriers as the first woman to serve as an assistant for Trinity's Division III men's program. DiDia praised Weiss's player development track record and leadership credentials.

The hiring comes as the PWHL expands to 12 teams following the addition of four new franchises, including Las Vegas. With the league draft set to begin in Detroit on Wednesday, Weiss will quickly begin shaping her inaugural roster.
