Jonathan Toews officially retired Friday, closing a 15-year NHL career highlighted by three Stanley Cup championships with the Chicago Blackhawks and two Olympic gold medals representing Canada. The 38-year-old center made his announcement in Winnipeg, where he completed his professional journey with the Jets this past season.

Toews returned to the NHL in 2025-26 after stepping away for two years due to chronic immune response syndrome and long COVID. He played all 82 games for Winnipeg, tallying 11 goals and 18 assists while proving his resilience. The comeback allowed him to finish his career where it began, in his hometown.

During his tenure with Chicago, Toews captained the Blackhawks to titles in 2010, 2013 and 2015, earning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in his first championship run. He concluded his career with 383 goals and 529 assists across 1,149 regular-season games.

Toews also captured international honors including the 2016 World Cup, 2007 world championship, and consecutive junior titles in 2006 and 2007. The Blackhawks called him the 'heartbeat' of their organization. His retirement marks the end of an era for one of hockey's premier two-way forwards.
