Patrick Kane is returning to the Chicago Blackhawks on a two-year contract with an average annual value of $8 million. The 37-year-old winger, who became a superstar with the Blackhawks after being drafted first overall in 2007, won three Stanley Cups and is second all-time in franchise points with 1,225. He also holds franchise records for third in goals (446) and games played (1,161).

Kane spent 16 seasons with Chicago before being traded to the New York Rangers in 2023. He then signed three one-year deals with the Detroit Red Wings, recording 16 goals and 41 assists in 67 games last season. Multiple reports suggested Kane was considering a return to Chicago or a move to his native Buffalo.

Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson expressed excitement about Kane's return, highlighting his past contributions and winning pedigree. The reunion also means Kane will have the opportunity to play alongside Connor Bedard, the Blackhawks' first overall pick from 2023, who had actively recruited him. Bedard, who signed a five-year, $75 million extension, called the prospect of playing with Kane "incredible."
