Shortstop Tim Anderson, a 2-time All-Star and former batting champion, announced his retirement Monday after 10 MLB seasons, saying the game no longer brought him joy. "Definitely a lot of dark moments... it just brought too much pain for me," he told reporters.

Anderson, 33, last played for the Los Angeles Angels, hitting .205 in 31 games. He spent eight seasons with the Chicago White Sox, batting over .300 for four straight years and leading the majors with a .335 average in 2019. He made All-Star teams in 2021 and 2022 and won a Silver Slugger in 2020.

In 991 career games, Anderson hit .276 with 98 homers, 350 RBIs and 122 steals. The White Sox will honor him on Sept. 17.
