Canucks dismiss GM Allvin after league‑worst season

Vancouver announced Friday that general manager Patrik Allvin is out after four seasons. The Canucks, who were a win from the Western Conference finals in 2024, collapsed to finish with the worst record in the NHL, trailing the next‑worst team by more than ten points. President of hockey operations Jim Rutherford thanked Allvin for assembling a youthful roster and laying a rebuild foundation.

Allvin arrived in January 2022 to shape a core of Thatcher Demko, Quinn Hughes, J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson into a playoff staple. The group won the Pacific Division in 2023 under Rick Tocchet, then fell to Edmonton in the second round. Injuries, inconsistency and a public $92.8 million contract for Pettersson hampered the 2024‑25 season, and Miller was traded to New York in January.

Following the season, Adam Foote stepped up as interim GM while Vancouver reshaped its roster, moving on from veterans like David Kampf and Tyler Myers. With the draft lottery odds stacked in their favor, the Canucks hold four first‑round picks and ten selections overall, aiming to blend new prospects with remaining veterans such as Brock Boeser and Jake DeBrusk. Salary‑cap flexibility sits at roughly $21.5 million.
