West Madison Foods, a portfolio company of Brynwood Partners, has acquired Flavor of California from Salt Creek Capital and CEO Julie Pantiskas for undisclosed terms. Flavor of California, formed in 2018, holds the license to produce and sell Bob’s Big Boy salad dressings, dips and relish in the western US and Mexico. The acquisition includes an amended license agreement with Big Boy Restaurant Group, expanding the brand’s territory across the entire US.
West Madison also manufactures Dean’s Dips and Marie’s salad dressings. The deal does not include Bob’s Big Boy restaurants. Henk Hartong, chairman and CEO of Brynwood Partners, said the expanded licensing will allow sales in states like Michigan and Ohio where the brand has a rich history.
Brynwood’s portfolio, which includes Carolina Beverage Group, Hometown Food Company and Miracapo Pizza Company, generates more than $2.5 billion in annual sales and employs over 3,700 people across 11 US manufacturing facilities. The Greenwich, Connecticut-based firm manages more than $1.7 billion in assets and has made control investments in lower middle-market consumer companies since 1984. Salt Creek is a San Francisco Bay Area-based private equity firm.
Winston Taylor served as legal adviser to West Madison, and UB Greensfelder advised Flavor of California.
