Archimed has acquired a majority stake in Genetica Bioscience, a Brazilian wastewater treatment specialist, through its MED III fund. Rise Investment joined as a minority co-investor, while Genetica's founding shareholders will reinvest and continue leading the company. This marks Archimed's first standalone investment in Brazil and the 10th from the €650 million MED III fund.
Founded in 2005 and headquartered in Chapecó, Santa Catarina, Genetica develops biological products for industrial wastewater treatment, biogas generation, and crop protection. Its vertically integrated platform includes microorganism R&D, proprietary formulation, and in-house manufacturing, serving clients in agribusiness, food and beverage, collagen, and pharmaceuticals. Genetica's biological solutions offer a more efficient, cost-effective alternative to chemical inputs, reducing waste and chemical runoff.
Archimed identified Genetica after an extensive market review and will apply its Med Value template to accelerate growth through product expansion, innovation, licensing, and acquisitions. The firm plans to strengthen Genetica's commercial organization and expand into new industrial segments. 'As industrial customers accelerate their shift from chemical to biological solutions, Genetica is positioned to lead,' said Antoine Faguer, partner at Archimed.
