Samsung Display has secured Apple's approval to begin module production of OLED panels for the company's first foldable iPhone. The supplier is operating back-end production lines in Vietnam to fulfill an initial order of approximately three million panels scheduled for delivery this year. Apple requires suppliers to demonstrate at least a 70% yield rate, and Samsung Display reportedly achieved yields above 80%.

Samsung Display will serve as the exclusive supplier under a three-year agreement, handling back-end processing that includes driver circuits, flexible printed circuit boards, and protective components. The panels will incorporate Color Filter on Encapsulation (CoE) technology and Samsung's M16 OLED material set, which improves brightness, color performance, lifespan, and power efficiency over previous generations.

Rumors suggest the foldable iPhone will feature a 7.8-inch inner display and 5.5-inch cover display, marking a significant departure from Apple's traditional design approach. The device is expected to use Touch ID rather than Face ID, include an A20 chip and C2 modem, with pricing reportedly starting around $2,000.

This development represents a major milestone in Apple's long-rumored foldable phone project, signaling that production is moving beyond prototype stages toward actual consumer availability. Samsung Display's exclusive arrangement gives the South Korean manufacturer a significant competitive advantage in the premium foldable display market.
