Apple to Upgrade 5 Products with OLED Displays by 2029

Apple plans to upgrade several iPads and Macs with OLED displays over the next three years, according to a new DigiTimes report.

The following five devices will reportedly receive OLED displays between 2026 and 2029, based on industry sources cited by the Taiwanese publication:

- iPad mini: 2026

- MacBook Pro: Late 2026 or early 2027

- iPad Air: 2027

- iMac: 2028 or 2029

- MacBook Air: 2028 or 2029

OLED displays offer better image quality than LCDs, with richer colors and higher contrast ratios. All current iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad Pro models already feature OLED screens.

While the iPad Pro uses advanced "Tandem OLED" technology with dual panels for increased brightness and ProMotion 120Hz support, the iPad Air will reportedly use a single-stack OLED with LTPS backplane, resulting in lower brightness and 60Hz refresh rate. These limitations align with the iPad Air's lower price point compared to the iPad Pro.

It remains unclear whether Apple plans to release a Studio Display XDR with OLED technology, as the current model uses mini-LED backlighting. The entry-level iPad and MacBook Neo are expected to retain LCD displays.
