Apple's popular MacBook Air won't get an OLED display until 2028, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The MacBook Air will transition from LCD to OLED technology as part of Apple's broader migration strategy across its premium devices.

Gurman reports that Apple plans to roll out OLED displays first to the iPad mini, then MacBook Pro, iPad Air, and finally the MacBook Air. The MacBook Pro will likely get OLED this year with touch screen functionality, while the low-cost iPad will continue using LCD panels. Apple is expected to update the MacBook Air with M5 chips imminently, but it will retain its current display technology.

When the OLED MacBook Air does arrive, it will feature several display improvements including brighter screens, deeper blacks with higher contrast, and better power efficiency that could extend battery life. If Apple maintains its annual upgrade cycle, the first OLED MacBook Air will likely ship with M7 chips. Gurman previously reported that Apple has already begun early development work on the OLED MacBook Air, suggesting the company is laying groundwork for the 2028 transition despite the technology not arriving for several years.
