OLED iPad Mini Rumored 60Hz 8.4-Inch Display

Apple is allegedly using a 60Hz 8.4-inch LTPS OLED panel in the upcoming iPad mini, according to tipster yeux1122 on the Korean Naver blog. The leaker claims a supply chain source confirmed a low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) backplane hybrid OLED panel clocked at 60Hz.

This contrasts with iPad Pro models that feature two-stack LTPO OLED panels capable of dynamically adjusting refresh rates between 10Hz and 120Hz (ProMotion). LTPS OLED panels typically pair with fixed refresh rates and are dimmer than LTPO. If accurate, the leak will disappoint fans hoping for a higher refresh rate than the current iPad mini 7's 60Hz LCD, especially since the base iPhone 17 uses 120Hz ProMotion. However, the iPhone 17e demonstrates Apple still employs 60Hz OLED panels for certain devices.

The leaker also states the device is in mass production at Samsung Display's A2 Generation 5.5 OLED production line at its Asan campus in South Korea. Samsung has used this line for both LTPO and LTPS panels, so production there doesn't confirm the panel type. A late 2026 launch is widely expected. Beyond refresh rates, OLED offers higher contrast, deeper blacks, and improved power efficiency over the LCD in the iPad mini 7.
