iPhone 18e Sticks with 60Hz Display, Skipping ProMotion Until 2028

Digital Chat Station, a well-known Chinese leaker, claims the iPhone 18e will retain its predecessor's 60Hz LTPS TFT display rather than adopting the ProMotion 120Hz technology expected across Apple's 2027 lineup. The leak suggests Apple's entry-level model will miss out on the smoother scrolling and Always-On display features that define the premium experience.

This decision puts Apple at odds with Android competitors, where 120Hz screens have become standard even at similar price points to the iPhone 17e. The move reflects Apple's strategy of reserving advanced display technology for higher-tier models, a pattern that has defined the iPhone SE and iPhone 14e/15e/16e/17e line.

According to Korean reports cited in the leak, LTPO panels won't reach the iPhone lineup until the fourth-generation model expected in early 2028. These displays would enable dynamic refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz, significantly improving battery efficiency. Apple reportedly plans to debut LTPO+ technology with oxide semiconductors in premium models first, including the iPhone Air and foldable iPhone.

The timeline remains uncertain, however, as LTPO+ development could face delays that push standard LTPO adoption further out. This means budget-conscious buyers may continue waiting for display technology that Android users already take for granted, potentially widening the spec gap between iPhone tiers.
