Apple has added support for text fragment links in Safari 18, allowing users to share URLs that jump directly to specific passages on webpages. The feature, called Scroll to Text Fragment, was originally developed by Google in 2020 and has since been adopted by most Chromium-based browsers including Edge, Opera, Brave, and Vivaldi.

To use the feature in Safari on macOS Sequoia and later, simply highlight the desired text, right-click, and select Copy Link with Highlight. This generates a special URL containing a hash symbol and text element that bookends the selected passage. When shared, clicking the link takes recipients directly to that section with the text highlighted.

The functionality is also available on iPhone and iPad, though users report it's buggy and inconsistent in iOS 26.3. Apple is expected to address these issues in future updates. The feature doesn't work with PDFs and the appearance of highlights may vary depending on how the page author has styled the text.

Since July 2025, Firefox has also implemented this capability, making it increasingly standard across major browsers. This tool simplifies sharing specific content by eliminating the need for recipients to scroll through entire articles to find relevant information.
