Apple's digital driver's license feature is now available in 13 U.S. states and Puerto Rico, letting iPhone and Apple Watch users store identification cards in the Wallet app. The feature launched in Arizona in March 2022 and has gradually expanded to include major states like California, Ohio, and Illinois. Users can add their license by tapping the plus sign in the Wallet app and following setup steps.

TSA checkpoints at over 250 airports accept Apple Wallet IDs for domestic travel, though physical IDs remain necessary for law enforcement and other uses. The service works at major hubs including LAX, ORD, and ATL, but travelers should verify availability with TSA signage. Apple has partnered with state DMVs to bring the feature to new regions, though rollout timelines vary by location.

Seven additional states including Connecticut, Kentucky, and Virginia have signed on to adopt the feature, though no launch dates have been announced. For residents in non-participating states, Apple offers a Digital ID based on U.S. passports that works at the same TSA checkpoints. The passport-based option requires iOS 26.1 or watchOS 26.1 and cannot be used for international travel.
