Apple has announced that seven additional U.S. states will adopt iPhone driver's licenses through Apple Wallet The feature, currently available in 13 states and Puerto Rico, allows residents to store their driver's license or state ID digitally and use it for identity verification at TSA checkpoints and select businesses. The expansion includes Connecticut, Kentucky, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Utah, Arkansas, and Virginia.

Since launching in Arizona in March 2022, Apple Wallet IDs have expanded to include major states like California, Texas, and Illinois. The digital licenses are accepted at over 250 airports nationwide for domestic travel, though they cannot be used by law enforcement or for international trips. Users must still carry physical IDs for situations where digital verification isn't accepted.

For states not yet offering the feature, Apple introduced a Digital ID based on U.S. passports in November 2025. This alternative works at the same TSA checkpoints but requires iOS 26.1 or watchOS 26.1. The gradual rollout reflects ongoing negotiations between Apple, state DMVs, and federal agencies to establish secure digital identity standards that protect user privacy while providing convenient verification options.
