Apple adds Suggested Genmoji to iOS 27 emoji suite

Apple is reviving its on‑device AI emoji tool in the upcoming iOS 27, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman. The Genmoji feature lets users type a prompt and receive a custom‑drawn emoji, all generated locally without sending data to the cloud. Early iterations suffered from mismatched artwork and heavy processor use that warmed the phone and sapped battery life.

Apple has reportedly fine‑tuned the model to curb heat and drain, and it is bundling a new optional layer called Suggested Genmoji. The system scans a user’s photo library and frequently typed phrases, then surfaces emoji suggestions without manual input. A toggle appears in Keyboard settings labeled “Suggested Genmoji are created from your photos and your commonly typed phrases.”

The feature will debut in the iOS 27 beta shown at WWDC next month, with a full rollout slated for the fall. By keeping generation on‑device, Apple hopes to differentiate its emoji suite from competing chat apps while preserving privacy. iOS 27 therefore arrives as a clear upgrade to everyday messaging. Early testers report smoother performance and negligible temperature rise during prolonged use.
