OpenAI launched GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, following GPT-6 Astra. GPT-6 Sol is for everyday work and costs less than Astra, while GPT-6 Luna is even cheaper and optimized for fast responses and higher volume. The new models outperform predecessors on OpenAI's benchmarks, with GPT-6 Sol making about half as many mistakes as GPT-5.6 Sol. GPT-6 Sol matches or beats Claude Fable 5.1 on some benchmarks, but Anthropic released Opus 5.5 today, outperforming Astra on some coding and knowledge work benchmarks.

GPT-6 Sol and Luna adopt Astra's improved communication style with less jargon and fewer low-value details. Answers are slightly shorter without losing substance, and they have lower rates of misleading claims about coding work in alignment testing. OpenAI is lowering token prices: GPT-6 Sol costs $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, down by half. GPT-6 Luna costs $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens, down from $0.20 and $1.20. Prompt caching is improved, with agents reusing more context, responding faster, and getting 90 percent discounts on cached input-token reads.

GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna are rolling out in ChatGPT Work and Codex starting today for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users. GPT-6 Luna is available to Free and Go users in the desktop app. They are not yet available in Chat mode.
