Samsung Foundry Raises Prices on High Demand

Samsung Foundry is responding to a surge in customer orders by adjusting pricing across several manufacturing nodes. In July, the company increased prices for its 4 nm (SF4) node by 10-15% in the US and China, while Taiwan-based customers saw smaller increases of 5-10%. The 5 nm (SF5) node also experienced similar price hikes, and even the older 8 nm (SF8) node saw a 10% increase, likely driven by NVIDIA's renewed orders for the GeForce RTX 3060.

Newer nodes such as SF2 and SF3 were not affected by these price changes, suggesting Samsung had already anticipated demand for these advanced technologies. According to Reuters, US customers receive priority after Samsung's internal chip needs, while Chinese design houses rank third but are willing to accept steeper price increases to secure wafer allocations.

These pricing adjustments signal a potential turnaround for Samsung's foundry business, which has operated at a loss since 2022. With improving yields and strong demand, Samsung aims to achieve profitability as early as next year. Despite holding only 7% of the global foundry market compared to TSMC's 70%, Samsung's strategic pricing moves indicate growing momentum in the competitive semiconductor landscape.
