The device is expected to become more personalized and proactive over time, anticipating user needs and surfacing information preemptively. OpenAI believes its unique selling proposition will be the speaker's personality and its ability to connect with users on a humanlike level.

Adding to its unique design, the speaker allegedly incorporates "mechanical elements that can move on their own," aiming to present it as a "physical manifestation of ChatGPT." It will be equipped with a camera and sensors to understand user surroundings and context. This project stems from OpenAI's acquisition of Jony Ive's io Products, with Love From and former Apple designers involved. The speaker is slated for unveiling later this year and a 2027 release.
