Apple Maps Ads: What's Not Allowed

Apple has updated its Advertising Services policy to specify ad categories prohibited in the Maps app. Notably excluded are home services (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.), bail bonds, and ads for cryptocurrency ATMs. While medical services ads may be permitted case-by-case, Apple's restrictions aim to differentiate from competitors like Google by focusing on businesses with physical locations.

These new rules supplement existing prohibitions against ads for controlled substances, alcohol, dietary supplements, financial products, gambling, prescription drugs, weapons, and content promoting violence or antisocial behavior. Apple also bars ads with deceptive claims, defamation, discrimination, illegal content, intellectual property violations, anti-Apple messaging, political ads, unproven health products, or offensive content.

Ads are slated to launch in the United States and Canada this summer, appearing in search results and Suggested Places with a clear "Ad" label. Apple assures users that their location data and ad interactions are not linked to their Apple account, and no ad data is collected or shared with third parties.
