Samsung's popular pre-order perk of a free storage upgrade for its flagship smartphones may not extend to the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold8, Fold8 Ultra, and Flip8, slated for unveiling on July 22.

Instead of a full storage upgrade, reports suggest Samsung will offer a 50% discount on the price difference between the 256GB and 512GB models. This change is attributed to the ongoing memory price crisis, which has reportedly led to an estimated operating loss of KRW 1.5 trillion ($1 billion) for Samsung's mobile division in the second quarter, a historic first for the unit.

While a Samsung official could not confirm the change, the move would be a way for the company to offset increased memory costs. This revised perk is less attractive than previous offers, but may become the new standard given the financial pressures.
