Netflix plans to fully integrate vertical video into its mobile app by late 2026, following a six-month test. The feature currently shows promotional clips for films and TV shows, with a swipe-to-advance interface similar to TikTok and YouTube Shorts. This redesign aims to keep users engaged within the Netflix ecosystem.

Co-CEO Greg Peters suggested the format could promote new content types, like video podcasts. Netflix is directly challenging YouTube by launching original video podcasts, including shows from sports commentator Michael Irvin and comedian Pete Davidson. It also hosts established audio podcasts from networks like The Ringer.

This push into short-form vertical content comes as Netflix reports strong financial health. The company posted $45.2 billion in 2025 revenue, with $1.5 billion from ad-supported tiers, and served 325 million paid subscribers globally. The move is a strategic bid to capture more of the mobile-first, ad-friendly audience.
