Netflix is embracing vertical videos as part of a major mobile app redesign announced in its Q1 2026 shareholder report. The streaming giant plans to introduce a new discovery feed featuring vertical videos by the end of April, similar to Disney Plus's Verts feature launched in March. This move comes as Netflix continues to expand its mobile experience after recently updating its TV interface.

In its quarterly earnings, Netflix reported 16% year-over-year revenue growth while detailing plans to leverage technology for improved user engagement. The company stated the redesign will better reflect its expanding entertainment offering and make it easier for members to engage how and when they want. Netflix also highlighted its use of Gen AI to recommend content to members who might be more prone to watching vertical videos.

The timing raises eyebrows given Netflix's recent price hikes - the Standard plan now costs $19.99 monthly while the Premium 4K plan reached $26.99, marking the second increase in 14 months. As streaming services compete for attention through short-form content, Netflix's pivot to vertical videos mirrors similar moves by Disney Plus and others in the industry.
