At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Elon Musk claimed Tesla will sell its Optimus humanoid robot to the public by the end of 2027. He said the robots are already performing simple tasks in Tesla factories, though the company has provided no independent proof. This announcement follows years of unrealistic timelines from Musk for autonomous tech.

Musk's history of missed deadlines for products like Full Self-Driving makes this promise highly questionable. Recent Optimus demonstrations have been exposed as remotely piloted by humans, not autonomous. The project's head, Milan Kovac, recently left Tesla, adding to doubts about the timeline. Investors briefly pushed Tesla's stock up over 3% on the news.

The CEO also announced that Tesla's Cybercab robotaxi will enter production in April, with a goal of two million units annually. That target seems wildly optimistic for a two-seat, steering-wheel-free vehicle. Together, these announcements reflect a pattern of bold promises that outpace the current reality of humanoid robotics and autonomous driving.
