AMD unveiled the Ryzen 9950X3D2, its first desktop chip with 208MB of on-chip cache (104MB per chiplet), doubling last year's 9950X3D's 144MB. Built on Zen 5 architecture, the 16-core processor targets gamers and creators, with AMD claiming 5-10% performance gains in Unreal Engine, Blender, and DaVinci Resolve. The 200W TDP—up from 170W—suggests higher power demands but promises smoother multitasking for AI models, 3D rendering, and game development.

The chiplet design, featuring dual 3D V-Cache modules, places more data closer to cores, reducing latency. Senior VP Jack Huynh emphasized this advantage in a promo video, though specifics on gaming benchmarks remain undisclosed. Compared to the original 9950X3D’s $675 price tag, the new model’s cost is pending, but its specs position it as a premium option for enthusiasts.

Available April 22, the 9950X3D2 builds on AMD’s 2023 success with 3D V-Cache, which initially aimed to boost gaming frame rates.
