AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Benchmarks Show 7% Gain

AMD's long-rumored Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 finally surfaced in Geekbench, showing a modest 7% performance uplift over the standard 9950X3D. The test scores of 3,553 single-core and 24,340 multi-core points confirm the rumored 16-core, 32-thread configuration. This chip was once expected at CES 2026, but its release now looks likely later this year.

The key change is the move to 3D V-Cache on both chiplets, delivering a total of 192 MB of L3 cache. AMD sacrificed 100 MHz of peak clock speed, dropping the boost to 5.6 GHz, for this massive cache pool. This design targets cache-sensitive gaming and demanding workstation tasks, though it comes with a higher thermal design power of 200 W.

That 7% gain shows the real-world benefit of stacking extra cache on high-core-count CPUs. While the improvement seems small, it matters for enthusiasts chasing every frame or accelerating specific professional workloads. The bigger question is pricing and availability, as AMD must balance this premium feature against its higher power draw and potential cost.
