AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D: Specs, Release Date & Performance

AMD has officially launched the Ryzen 7 9850X3D, claiming the title of the world's fastest gaming CPU. Built on the 'Zen 5' microarchitecture, this new desktop processor features 8 cores and 16 threads, supercharged with 3rd Gen 3D V-Cache technology. It represents a direct performance uplift over the current 9800X3D, boasting a base frequency of 4.70 GHz and a significant maximum boost frequency of 5.60 GHz—a 400 MHz increase over its predecessor.

This higher clock speed is designed to increase boost frequency residency across various thread counts, offering smoother gameplay. A key innovation is the repositioning of the 64 MB L3D cache; it is now located below the 8-core CCD rather than above it. This architectural shift allows the CCD to maintain thermal characteristics similar to non-X3D Ryzen processors, enabling sustained higher boost frequencies and improved overclocking capabilities.

With a 120 W TDP, the chip is set for retail availability in Q1 2026, though pricing remains undisclosed.
