Apple's macOS Tahoe Passwords History Feature

Apple has introduced a new password history feature in macOS Tahoe, addressing a common password management challenge. The updated Passwords app now tracks all previous password versions, allowing users to retrieve older credentials when needed. This addition solves the frequent problem of forgetting passwords after changing them on different devices or during incomplete password changes.

The feature benefits users who share passwords with colleagues or experience connectivity issues during password resets. macOS Tahoe now maintains a complete record of all password changes with timestamps. Users can see when each password was saved or modified, eliminating confusion about which credential works for specific login attempts.

To access the history, users select a login in the Passwords app and click "View History" if present. Each entry reveals the actual password, stored as securely as the current one. Apple launched Passwords in 2024, and this version history feature brings it closer to functionality offered by competitors like 1Password while providing a native solution for password versioning challenges.
