Rockstar's upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI will make car theft more challenging and varied, according to a new IGN preview. Unlike previous games where players could hot-wire any vehicle with a simple button press, GTA 6 will require different approaches depending on the car's make and model. Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar, explained that this change adds layers of progression and decision-making for players.

Early in the game, certain parked cars will be inaccessible until players acquire specific tools, though carjacking any driver remains an option. For example, vehicles with electronic key fobs may need a key cloner, while those with built-in GPS could require driving at certain speeds to avoid detection. An in-game app will help players determine what's needed to steal a car and its value.

Meanwhile, Rockstar is dealing with ongoing leaks from a hacker group, which have continued despite the company's efforts to identify them. Take-Two, Rockstar's owner, is actively investigating the source of these leaks. The game promises a more nuanced and engaging theft system, rewarding players who plan and adapt.
