Import Passwords to Apple Passwords: Step-by-Step Guide

Apple's new Apple Passwords app, introduced with iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia, offers a secure alternative to third-party managers like 1Password. The app consolidates features from the old iCloud Keychain and provides a built-in solution for managing login credentials across Apple devices.

Unlike comprehensive password managers, Apple Passwords focuses primarily on storing login passwords and doesn't support credit card numbers, software serial numbers, or secure documents. This limitation makes it ideal for users seeking a streamlined solution for website credentials but may require maintaining another service for additional secure information.

Importing passwords requires a Mac, as the feature is only available through the macOS version of the app. Users must export their existing passwords as a .csv file from their current manager, then use the File menu in Apple Passwords to complete the import. After importing, it's recommended to delete the .csv file containing passwords in plain text and keep the old password manager for a few months to address any import issues.
