Oura Ring 5 launches with 40% smaller design and blood pressure tracking

Oura has unveiled its fifth-generation smart ring, shrinking the device by 40% while maintaining up to seven days of battery life. The Oura Ring 5 introduces Health Radar, an AI-powered platform that monitors biometric trends to detect potential health issues. Nighttime data helps identify cardiovascular strain and provides early warnings without replacing traditional blood pressure monitors.

The redesigned internal architecture features lower-profile sensor domes for better skin contact and more powerful LEDs for consistent readings. Oura claims finger-based wearables capture pulse signals up to 100 times stronger than wrist-based trackers, supporting the ring's accuracy. Live workout tracking now delivers pace and distance metrics directly in the app, while Automatic Activity Detection can recognize lower-motion exercises like Pilates.

After skipping the portable charging case with Ring 4, Oura finally includes wireless charging support—though the aluminum case costs $99 separately and can store up to a month of battery. The base model starts at $399 for Silver and Black finishes, scaling to $499 for premium options. Pre-orders begin today with shipments starting June 4.

The size reduction addresses a major comfort concern for 24/7 wear, making the ring more practical for daily use. However, charging extra for the case feels like a missed opportunity to match competitors like Samsung's Galaxy Ring. This update strengthens Oura's position in the growing screenless fitness tracker market.
