Meta Quest's Navigator UI sparks user backlash

Meta rolled out the Navigator UI to Quest headsets after two years of development, promising faster VR launches. Early adopters quickly discovered that the new two‑layer window system forces extra clicks for everyday tasks. Users can’t revert to the legacy interface, and many are demanding workarounds for basic actions like closing apps or taking screenshots.

The redesign replaces the familiar home‑button shortcut with a launcher that always appears, while floating windows remain visible until a double‑press hides them. The bottom menu bar lost pinning, quick‑close, and camera shortcuts, pushing users to discover hidden gestures or a new "hide windows" button that still adds steps. Accessing app menus now requires hovering over an icon and holding the trigger, turning a simple three‑dot tap into a multi‑step process.

Critics note that Meta ignored extensive beta feedback, shipping a UI that improves launch speed at the expense of usability. The only rollback option involves sideloading Quest Games Optimizer, which also unlocks performance tweaks. For now, owners must learn the new navigation quirks or endure a clunkier daily experience.
