Google Fi SIM Error Leaves Users Without Mobile Data

Google Fi users are experiencing a widespread outage affecting mobile data across multiple devices and regions. The issue, which began late March 31, 2026, displays a 'SIM card is no longer active' error message even when service should be functioning normally. Google has acknowledged the problem on its support page, confirming technicians are actively working on a fix.

Affected users report the outage appears random, with no clear pattern regarding device types or geographic locations. The service disruption is particularly notable given Google Fi's reputation as one of the more reliable carrier services in the U.S. market. While Google works on a permanent solution, some support agents have suggested a temporary workaround involving the app's international calling settings.

Users experiencing the error can attempt to restore service by opening the Fi app, navigating to the Home tab, and toggling the 'Calls to non-US numbers' setting under International features. After disabling the feature for about a minute, re-enabling it reportedly restores normal functionality for some affected customers. The outage banner remained visible early Wednesday morning, indicating the issue continues for many users.
