Galaxy Z Flip 8 may split chipset strategy between Snapdragon and Exynos

Samsung is reportedly considering a return to Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips for the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 8, potentially abandoning its previous all-Exynos approach. According to tipster Lanzuk on Naver, the foldable could feature Snapdragon chips in certain markets while using Samsung's Exynos 2600 elsewhere. This dual-chip strategy would mirror what Samsung implemented with the Galaxy S26 series earlier this year.

The shift allegedly stems from cost concerns with Samsung's in-house Exynos processor. Reports suggest the Exynos 2600 production costs are prohibitively high, prompting Samsung to accept a favorable price from Qualcomm for its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The Exynos 2600 debuted as the world's first 2nm process chip for phones, featuring improved CPU layout and efficiency over previous generations.

Samsung previously limited Snapdragon chips to the Galaxy S26 in the US and select markets, leaving South Korea with the Exynos variant. However, ongoing Exynos problems with heat generation and performance gaps may have accelerated this strategic reconsideration. The move could address consumer preferences in regions where Qualcomm processors dominate market perception.

If confirmed, this change would mark a significant shift in Samsung's chipset strategy, potentially improving the Flip 8's competitiveness against rivals like Motorola and Huawei. The phone is also rumored to feature a 6.9-inch display with a 4-inch cover screen and slimmer folded profile.
