Google Pixel 11 Pro Camera Review: AI Magic Returns

For years, Google Pixel phones were considered to have the best smartphone cameras, especially for capturing motion like pets or kids. That was until competitors surpassed the Pixel 8 Pro series. With the Pixel 11 Pro, Google introduces a new ISP, upgraded hardware, and advanced software features to reclaim its crown.

Magic Capture is the standout feature, combining photo and video modes into one seamless experience. Using AI, it automatically selects highlight photos during capture sessions while recording the full video. Users can adjust zoom levels and take manual shots when needed. Available in both portrait and landscape orientations, this feature makes photo sessions effortless and fun.

Fine detail remains a Pixel strength, with natural textures preserved rather than artificially smoothed. In comparisons with the iPhone 17 Pro Max, the Pixel 11 Pro maintains authentic brick textures and film-like quality that many competitors miss.

Portrait mode has also seen dramatic improvement. Previous models struggled with edge blurring and subject separation, but the Pixel 11 Pro delivers clean, competitive results. The selfie camera has likewise improved significantly.

Telephoto performance is more competitive this year, though still trailing behind Chinese brands like Honor and Oppo. At extreme zoom levels (30x+), generative AI helps enhance detail, but hardware limitations remain apparent. Despite these shortcomings, the overall camera system is excellent and represents a strong return to form for Google's flagship line.
