Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 to Feature Custom Snapdragon 8 Elite

Samsung has confirmed the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will run the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, a custom‑tuned variant that offers higher CPU and GPU clocks than the standard chip. The upgrade promises stronger multitasking, gaming and on‑device AI, helping justify a rumored price jump.

The announcement precedes the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22, where the Fold 8 will launch alongside the Fold 8 Ultra and Flip 8. Samsung clarified that the device will use Qualcomm silicon worldwide, ruling out any Exynos variants.

Leaked details suggest a wider design that behaves more like a standard phone when closed, maximise battery life and enable faster charging. While Samsung hasn’t formally confirmed these changes, the potential improvements address long‑standing complaints of previous Fold models.

For consumers, the custom processor and redesign may make the $1,800 price point justifiable, though the real value will hinge on how well the new battery and fold mechanism perform in everyday use. The move signals Samsung’s continued reliance on Qualcomm for flagship foldables, setting a trend for other manufacturers to follow.
