Samsung's Dual Galaxy Z Fold 8 Strategy: Ultra vs. Wide Models Compared

Samsung is preparing two distinct Galaxy Z Fold 8 models for release, creating confusion around naming conventions. The flagship Ultra variant will succeed the Galaxy Z Fold 7 with refined design and premium features, while a wider-screen version targets content consumption. Both phones are expected at the July 22, 2026 Galaxy Unpacked event in London.

The display differences are significant. The wide model features a 5.4-inch cover screen and 7.6-inch inner display with 4:3 aspect ratio for media consumption. Meanwhile, the Ultra model reportedly packs a 6.5-inch cover screen and 8-inch main display with 1:1 aspect ratio, favoring productivity over entertainment. Both use 120Hz LTPO AMOLED panels.

Camera specifications separate the models clearly. The wide Galaxy Z Fold 8 sticks to dual cameras: 50MP main and 50MP ultrawide. The Ultra version upgrades to triple cameras including a 200MP primary sensor, 50MP ultrawide, and 12MP telephoto with 3x zoom. Rumors suggest the Ultra will also carry a larger 5,000mAh battery compared to unknown capacity for the wide model.

Both devices will reportedly use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage base configuration. Pricing remains unclear, though the Galaxy Z Fold 7's $2,000 starting price provides a reference point. The wide model should cost less than Ultra, offering Samsung's first serious attempt at differentiating foldable lineups beyond just size.
