Smart‑access firm Salto has upgraded its Space Hospitality platform to support Room Keys in Apple Wallet. Guests at participating hotels can tap an “Add to Apple Wallet” button in the property’s app—or sometimes at the front desk—to store a digital key on their iPhone or Apple Watch. The device then unlocks rooms and shared areas by proximity to Salto readers.

By moving key distribution onto users’ devices, hotels can cut labor tied to card programming and front‑desk hand‑offs. Salto’s cloud‑based credential manager delivers keys securely, enabling remote provisioning and mobile check‑in that instantly grants access to rooms, storage rooms, and amenities. The company lists clients across the U.S., Spain, Portugal and New Zealand, though rollout timing varies.

Property managers adopting the feature can streamline front‑desk operations and offer guests a frictionless arrival experience. Travelers with an iPhone or Apple Watch avoid fumbling with plastic cards, while hotels gain analytics on door usage. Salto’s integration positions digital hospitality keys as a standard amenity in modern lodging.

While Salto has not named the first properties to enable the service, its existing roster suggests many boutique chains could adopt the system quickly. As Apple expands digital key support across cars and homes, hotels that lag risk appearing outdated. The move signals a broader shift toward unified mobile credentials for everyday access.
