After over a decade, Apple is preparing to launch its first touchscreen MacBook this October alongside a redesigned MacBook Pro. Sources align on this upgrade, supported by hints in macOS 27, including Sidecar touch features and pull-to-refresh. The display will utilize a Tandem OLED panel similar to the iPad Pro, delivering incredible colors, strong contrast, and a compact Dynamic Island without Face ID.

Software will receive specialized touch optimizations. Per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, tapping controls will trigger contextual menus that adapt to prior interactions and enlarge menu bar items for precise finger selection. Internally, Apple is skipping the M6 series to accelerate the M7 roadmap. Consequently, the initial redesign will debut with existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, while a budget base model may follow next spring.

Design updates point to a slightly thinner chassis, addressing previous bulk without compromising thermals. Given recent memory crisis cost increases, pricing will likely start at $2499 for the 14-inch and $2999 for the 16-inch variants. This represents a significant shift for Apple’s professional computer lineup.
