Apple's Next MacBook Pro Brings OLED and Touchscreen

Despite a recent refresh, Apple is reportedly preparing one of its most substantial MacBook Pro updates for release later this year, likely in October or November. Major hardware shifts are expected, moving away from the current configuration in favor of significant technological upgrades across the display and input methods.

The most striking departure involves the screen technology; the new models ditch mini-LED backlighting for the first time in a Mac, adopting OLED panels for superior contrast and true blacks. Furthermore, Bloomberg suggests the refresh will introduce Apple's first-ever touchscreen Mac, requiring deep optimizations within macOS to handle touch gestures fluidly.

Design changes also appear set, with rumors suggesting Apple will trade the existing notch for a hole-punch camera cutout, integrating the Dynamic Island interface element. Powering these machines will be the next-generation M6 processors, built on a 2nm architecture promising efficiency gains over the current M5 series chips.

This move toward a thinner chassis, enabled by Apple Silicon’s efficiency, raises questions about port retention, though MagSafe, HDMI, and SD slots were recently reintroduced. The high-end configuration might even adopt the MacBook Ultra moniker to distinguish it from existing Pro/Max tiers.
