Framework Laptop 13 Pro Is the Repairable MacBook Rival

Framework has unveiled the Laptop 13 Pro, a machine its CEO describes as "the MacBook Pro for Linux users" — though it also runs Windows. The new model marks a significant design leap for the modular laptop maker, being its first built from fully machined 6000-series aluminum with a haptic trackpad and a custom 13.5-inch 2.8K display.

The IPS screen features a 3:2 aspect ratio with variable refresh rates from 30-120Hz, color-calibrated out of the box. Available in anodized black or silver, it matches the 15.85mm thickness of its predecessor while weighing slightly more at 1.4kg. Framework claims it even beats the 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro on battery life.

This is where the Apple comparison gets interesting. While the design borrows heavily from Apple's playbook, the philosophy couldn't be more different. Users can replace both the RAM and SSD, configure a completely different CPU including AMD Ryzen AI 300 boards, or upgrade just individual components — the display, keyboard, trackpad, or battery — on existing Framework Laptop 13 machines.

The company previously traded fit and finish for flexibility. If Framework has finally cracked the code on delivering Apple-level build quality without sacrificing modular upgradability, it offers a genuinely compelling option for users who want premium hardware without the ecosystem lock-in.
