Apple IT Leaders Want AI, But Few Are Ready

A recent Fleet report reveals that many organizations feel unprepared to deploy AI across their Mac fleets. Surveying over 500 IT decision-makers at large enterprises, the findings show where IT teams think they are with artificial intelligence integration.

Despite this uncertainty, 46.5% of leaders prioritize AI-driven automation as their top future investment, surpassing vulnerability remediation and device visibility. Meanwhile, 78% of employees are already utilizing personal AI tools at work. Enterprises typically run numerous internal AI applications, yet IT departments remain aware of only a fraction, creating significant visibility and security gaps.

This "shadow AI" trend poses serious risks. One organization exhausted its entire token budget within months after deploying a coding tool to thousands of engineers. Furthermore, IBM’s Cost of a Data Breach report indicates that breaches linked to unsanctioned AI tools cost an average of $670K more than standard incidents. IT teams now face mounting pressure to handle security, cost management, and training alongside existing duties, with nothing being removed from their roles.
