Defending champion John Korir claimed his second consecutive Boston Marathon victory in record-breaking fashion, crossing the finish line in 2 hours, 1 minute, 52 seconds. The Kenyan runner shattered the previous course record by 70 seconds, establishing the fifth-fastest marathon time in history. His decisive move came on Heartbreak Hill in Newton, where he broke away from the elite pack.

Korir's performance capped a remarkable day of racing under ideal conditions. Temperatures rose from 30s to 45 degrees by race time, creating perfect conditions for fast times after years of challenging weather. The field featured the strongest competition in the event's 130-year history, with three runners finishing under the previous Boston record. Alphonce Felix Simbu of Tanzania placed second, followed by 2021 champion Benson Kipruto just three seconds behind.

This victory marks Korir as only the second brother to win Boston, joining his sibling Wesley Korir who claimed victory in 2012. The race also saw Zouhair Talbi set a new American record with his fifth-place finish in 2:03:45. Race organizers implemented new crowd management strategies this year, consulting a crowd scientist to prevent bottlenecks along the narrow eight-city course.
