Kenya's Brigid Kosgei delivered a dominant performance at the Tokyo Marathon, setting a new course record of 2:14:29. The 32-year-old Olympic silver medalist finished more than two minutes ahead of Ethiopia's Bertukan Welde, who crossed the line in 2:16:36. Kosgei's victory breaks the previous record of 2:15:55 set by Sutume Asefa Kebede in 2024.

Kosgei's commanding win marks her strongest performance in Tokyo, where she previously won Olympic silver in 2021. The Kenyan star, who plans to represent Turkey at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, emphasized her desire to inspire younger athletes. "We have a lot of athletes in Kenya," Kosgei said, explaining her motivation to help develop running talent in her new country.

In the men's race, Ethiopia's Tadese Takele successfully defended his title in a thrilling finish. Takele, Geoffrey Toroitich, and Alexander Mutiso Munyao finished within seconds of each other, with all three athletes clocking times under 2:03:40. The 23-year-old Takele's strategic move in the final kilometers secured his victory in one of marathon running's most competitive fields.
